Field Trips & In-Class Programs

Forest Experiences for Youth

During the 1996 school year, the Oregon Department of Forestry began to build a set of lesson plans for field trips to the Tillamook State Forest. Our educators used a hands-on, student-centered approach and emphasized high-quality experiences. To ensure the best possible experience today, we limit guided school group sizes to 35 students and assign two staff members for each group. Pre-site, on-site and post-site activities are included to make the experience more comprehensive. We offer in-class programs, career presentations, scout programs, and have offered a summer day camp though camp has not been offered recently due to budget limitations.

Our education programs are very popular with more than 6,000 youth participating each year. Educational offerings providing students of all ages and teachers with high-quality learning experiences that tie directly to state curriculum and benchmark standards.
