Description

The Percent for Art program was established in 1975, which mandated that 1% of direct construction costs for new or remodeled state buildings must be allocated to the commission and purchase of artworks. In celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Percent for Art program’s founding, the Oregon Arts Commission, alongside Travel Oregon, has launched “50 for 50”, a program and invitation for Oregonians to discover 50 selected artworks displayed in public places around Oregon.

The bridge gate at the Tillamook Forest Center has been selected to be highlighted as part of the 50 for 50 initiative. A functional gate made of Douglas-fir and galvanized steel installed on the footbridge over the Wilson River. The overall shape of the gate echoes the architectural form of the Tillamook Interpretive Center's facade, while the design represents a new tree growing from a nurse stump.
